Father time

"Father Time is not always a hard parent, and, though he tarries for none of his children, often lays his hand lightly upon those who have used him well; making them old men and women inexorably enough, but leaving their hearts and spirits young and in full vigour. With such people the grey head is but the impression of the old fellow's hand in giving them his blessing, and every wrinkle but a notch in the quiet calendar of a well-spent life." --Charles Dickens

This weekend we celebrated Ryan's grandfather (Papaw)'s 86th Birthday. (86. wow.) This really got me to thinking about how life is so short, even if it is 86+ years. Who knows if we will live another day? Today is reason enough to celebrate this life and the fact that we are together.

I love dogs. I love my dogs...but I'm not sure my dogs would take a rattlesnake bite for Logan. Cadie might, but it would be because she wasn't paying attention for sure. She runs for cover when Logan sneezes. (I kid you not.) She is the one that found the last snake though. She barked at it, and then Ryan realized it was heading towards the back door.

I saw this story and it made me think that maybe I need to hire this little dog. Hopefully his owners made him something good for dinner...

what's in a name?

My first blog. hmmm. Where to begin? Well I wasn't even certain what to name it, much less what to put in it.

At the moment, Logan is 10 months old. My baby boy is growing up way too fast. Makes me just a little sad. He is standing by himself, has two teeth and crawls faster than I can run. It is bittersweet watching him grow - every day is something new, but there is still that part of me that is sad at the realization that he will no longer be a baby very, very soon. I know it's inevitable, but I just can't help it. These days are just precious to me.

Ryan is still really into Guitar Hero. He's playing it with the headphones on right now and I can't help but to laugh a little at the sound of his fingers pounding away at the guitar. He's really good at it (expert level), but I will admit I do get tired of hearing the same songs over and over, not to mention some of them are extremely repetitive and annoying. Oh yes, and did I mention that 80% of my extended family enjoys this same hobby? It's true. Even Grandpa Diggs plays. No lie. Got it for Father's Day. Reportedly played six hours one day. Bless you, Grandma. I know she must feel like I do - that I cannot escape this game. Reportedly she really likes some of the songs. Well. So did I, 47 times ago. (Note to headphones: I love you).

We found a snake in the yard the other night (the third one in about three months)- a little over 2 feet, so we've been nervous about Logan and the dogs getting in the grass. No snake sightings today. yay. We live on this little pond and my new obsession is to go out and feed the snapping turtles and the fish (brim and one giant catfish). We also get geese, ducks, and the occasional crane. [The picture at the top of the blog was taken from our back yard].

We're still in the debate on what to do about moving. Just seems like such a hassle after all we went through before. We're in no rush, but we know we're leaving eventually. A part of me just wants to pack up and go, the other part wants to hang on. I think that Ryan feels the same. Change is hard.

I am currently listening to the new Colbie Calliat cd. Ryan got it for me this weekend. Love it. Her music makes me want to be lying on the beach with a good book. Or sitting at my computer writing a blog. whatever. It makes me happy...this is all I know.

Thanks for being a part of my new blog ♥
